Cereal for the Common Cold

It is a hot cereal that promotes sweating, thereby pushes out the cold and the wind. Symptoms of wind-cold flu include chills, fever, headache, body ache, stuffy or runny nose, sneezing and cough. This cereal must be eaten hot to promote sweating. After eating, cover with a blanket and rest. If the flu is of the wind-heat type that includes high fever (no chills), do not eat this cereal. After recovering from the flu, it is advisable to discontinue eating this cereal.

Half cup sweet rice or brown rice
   1 tbsp. grated ginger
5 stalks green onion with roots, finely chopped
   1 tbsp. rice vinegar

In a saucepan, add rice and 4 cups water and ginger; simmer for 1 hour. Add green onion and simmer for another 30 minutes. When rice gets soft, turn off the heat and add the vinegar. Be sure to put the vinegar in last and not cook it for very long. Serve hot. You may season with a pinch of salt.
